Greetings, fellow travelers and residents in Taiwan! It’s time to grab your planners and mark your calendars because the public holidays for the year 2024 have been officially announced. The Government Personnel Administration has released the “2024 Government Administrative Institution Office Calendar,” detailing the public holidays and scheduled workdays for the upcoming year.

Let’s dive straight into the anticipated holidays that await us in 2024. Be prepared for some well-deserved breaks and long weekends as Taiwan gears up for an exciting year of celebrations and rest.

Total Holiday Count:

In the year 2024, Taiwan will have a total of 115 public holidays. Notably, there are four extended weekends where you can plan a little getaway, relax, or explore the beauty of Taiwan.

 

 

Highlighted Holidays:

1. New Year’s Day (Founding Day):

    • Dates: December 30th, 2023 (Saturday), December 31st, 2023 (Sunday), January 1st, 2024 (Monday).

    • Enjoy a three-day weekend as the New Year kicks off with the celebration of Founding Day.

    2. Lunar New Year:

      • Dates: February 8th (Thursday) to February 14th (Wednesday).

      • The Lunar New Year holiday spans seven days, providing ample time for family reunions, traditional celebrations, and cultural festivities.

      3. 228 Peace Memorial Day:

        • Date: February 28th (Wednesday).

        • This day commemorates an important moment in Taiwan’s history, offering a day to reflect and honor the past.

        4. Children’s Day and Tomb-Sweeping Day:

          • Dates: April 4th (Thursday) to April 7th (Sunday).

          • A four-day weekend presents an opportunity to pay respects and enjoy the arrival of spring.

          5. Labor Day:

            • Date: May 1st (Wednesday).

            • A day dedicated to honoring the contributions of the workforce.

            6. Dragon Boat Festival:

              • Dates: June 8th (Saturday) to June 10th (Monday).

              • Enjoy a three-day weekend filled with zongzi, dragon boat races, and cultural festivities.

              7. Mid-Autumn Festival:

                • Date: September 17th (Tuesday).

                • A day to celebrate under the full moon with traditional mooncakes and family gatherings.

                8. National Day:

                  • Date: October 10th (Thursday).

                  • Commemorating the founding of the Republic of China with a day of national pride.

                   

                  Additional Notes:

                  Apart from the extended holidays, there will be one makeup workday on February 17th to balance out the time off.

                  The Government Personnel Administration emphasizes that the government administrative institution office calendar is specifically for government administrative personnel. Public enterprise employees generally follow a similar schedule, while military personnel’s holidays are subject to the Ministry of National Defense’s jurisdiction.

                  Moreover, the academic calendars for schools are set by their respective education administrative authorities. For private sector employees, holidays adhere to labor standards set by the Ministry of Labor.
